Uber-Boat: Pangaea Exploration Vessel

Custom-built to carry out research projects, break Arctic ice, hit high speed on open water, negotiate the biggest waves in the wildest seas -- and generally kick ass sailing around the planet! -- the Pangaea is the sailboat and the eponymous base for Mike Horn's Pangaea Expedition, a four-year, continent-hopping journey. This week, I had the privilege of sailing with Mr. Horn and his crew for a few hundred miles in the Pacific, from San Francisco, Calif., down the coast to L.A. My recent post on GearJunkie.com, "Voyage of the Pangaea," highlights my time on the journey. This photo album focuses specifically on the Pangaea boat, including a batch of photos, from its origin to its launch, and then sailing the wild seas beyond. This is a one-of-a-kind craft, a "four-wheel-drive vehicle of the sea," as Horn has called it.
