Fray Leon House

Fray Leon House, despite its sharp lines and utilization of geometric, rectangular shapes, was designed with the organic in mind. Located in an eastern district of Santiago, Chile, the house was built in an “H” shape to accommodate the old trees and vegetation that characterize the lot. The first floor, for example, is organized around a large native Peumo, while numerous patios were constructed for easy enjoyment of the trees outside. Meanwhile, an enormous Avocado tree and old Cypress greet guests from the hall and eastern private wing, respectively, in a harmonious co-existence of both artifice and nature. Contemporary in its aesthetic, Fray Leon House maintains a primarily white color base both inside and out, while clean, modern design cues take predominance within its walls. A testament to 57STUDIO‘s skill, the residence’s architecture manages the ideal feat of simultaneously remaining distinct and amplifying the natural beauty around it.
