Going old school with equipment and battling nauseating headaches up Mt. Whitney's 14,500-foot East Face, the Smiley's 'chocked' up another route from the "Fifty Classic Climbs of North America" guidebook --chapter 46, to be exact, and number 18 for the Smiley's. They heeded the authors' advice, and only packed nine chocks for the climb.
The Smiley's are aiming to be the first couple to climb all of the routes made famous by the 1979 guidebook. In total, they're planning to notch over 164,000 vertical feet on a road trip that will cover over 25,000 miles by the last pitch.
Enjoy this gallery, and be sure to check out their current location, make a donation, and watch some of the routes they've hit thus far at SmileyProject.com.
