Etched between the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls or Mosi-oa-Tunya ("the Smoke that Thunders") is both an inspiring landscape and the launchpad for some of Southern Africa's most intense whitewater on the Zambezi River.

Thanks in part to the Zimbabwean independence in 1980, the region has since took root as one of the most popular adventure travel destinations in Africa. There are a number of travel outfits worth hosting your next departure, such as Victoria Falls Safaris or Afrizim to name a few, and the activities run the gamut: kayaking, rafting, hiking, bungee jumping, hang gliding, fishing and horseback riding. Low water season is typically between August and January, which is the peak season for kayaking the Zambezi.
Here's a video of a group of kayakers scouting the Zambezi River atop its 400 ft tall Basalt gorge that zig-zags for miles beyond Victoria Falls. They also find some mellow spots, like "Devil's Pool", a natural swimming pool that formed along the very edge of the 360 ft falls.
