PowderJet in “Powderized” exhibit during
Burlington’s South End Art Hop. Note: the cam lens
adds some angle. (Click to expand.)We first caught wind of this woodland creation last winter, but until recently never had a chance to see the legend first-hand. And it wasn't in a shop or at a friend's house where we first drooled over this handiwork; rather, it was hung delicately between high-profile photographs within an exhibit titled "Powderized" during Burlington's South End Art Hop.
A fitting introduction.

Jesse Huffman having some fun on a rare Vermont
cornice.Jesse Loomis, former TransWorld staff photographer and creator of the PowderJet, presses these snowboards in his self-made shop in Southern Vermont. Loomis developed a custom press and constructs the boards using layers of maple and poplar wood, a few strips of fiberglass, and tops it off with a coat of urethane.

Jesse Loomis tests the toe side. Check. That's it. No edges, no p-tex, no carbon-fiber-metal hollowed core laminates, no flux capacitor. Granted, there are times when the edge on your board is the last measure of recovery atop a crusty pitch, but there's a certain sense of triumph that comes along with riding in the nude --so to speak-- without the comforts of today's futuristic snowboard manufacturing. (Which we will forever find irresistible.)
The word from the hills say the aggressive sidecut, recessed stance and v-notched swallow tail gives the board a balanced, natural feel when surfing through Vermont's classic tight-tree powder lines. Judge for yourself, using this video evidence... Scott Lenhardt floating through a fluffy Vermont footer.
It's a powder board, born and bred in the Green Mountains. In fact, likely one of the last snowboards that's truly made in Vermont. Sizing is set at a comfortable 155, and you can find yours here for $650.
Very rad. Especially love the soundtrack/ powder suit combo in Jets video. Long live Vermont Snowboarding!!
